Paradox of the information society. The number of laptops with wi-fi stolen in the Silicon Valley is increasing at the same rate as the figure of wi-fi hotspots. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, these computers can be connected to the Internet immediately.Nonetheless, the amount of thefts is not very big yet. The 18 reports of 2004 became 48 in 2005, and they are expected to rise to 70 this year. Most of these thefts happen in cafés with wi-fi hotspots where people use their laptops forgetting that they are expensive machines that can attract thieves.
