The Basque company S21Sec has developed a rifle-shaped device to detect unsafe wireless networks. The novelty, which works connected to a laptop, includes a wi-fi aerial and software to analyse the vulnerabilities of each hotspot.According to the Spanish paper El Mundo, the device can find networks operating at 2.4 Ghz frequencies from distances of 7 Km. Theoretically, S21Sec only uses the device when the clients order its services beforehand. The procedure is as follows: the device picks up a signal, identifies and attacks it. This permits to create a security audit that is handed to the client afterwards in order to correct the vulnerabilities. S21Sec also offers a service for managers who’d like to make sure that their conversations via mobile phones or laptops connected to the Internet cannot be “bugged”.
