The Austrian operator WiMAX Telecom has been offering for a few days now phone services via ‘WiMAX Fon’. According to their press release, they offer the cheapest prices in the whole country: 9,90 euros per month, which include the first 120 minutes of national calls.The new system works with normal phone terminals, that are connected to a wimax receiver. Communication is established through VoIP. WiMAX Telecom has wimax licences in the 3,5 Ghz band that gives reception in Austria and Slovakia. The company is planning to expand itself to Croatia and has also asked for permissions to operate in Germany.One of the highlights of its offer is that big cities need to install aerials every two kilometres because buildings’ shadows stop their reception to reach the 30 kilometres that they would cover if the land was clear. Up till now, WiMAX Telecom has been offering Internet connection in order to compete against ADSL.
