Fon is causing sensation, especially in the USA. There are already two projects that are very similar to the company managed by Martín Varsavsky: WifiTrankYou y Wibiki. Both of them aim at sharing wireless access to the Internet, for free at the moment.Wibiki, whose head company (Speedus) is quoted in the stock market, is an exact copy of Fon, even to the extreme that both are based on the same router: Linksys’s. Apparently, its income will come from advertising, which is an strategy whose application doesn’t seem very reliable. Fon, however, aims at producing money from the fees contributed by paying users.
