Apart from being one of the poorest countries in the world, India is one of the nations where the use of the Internet is less spread. The Government has tried several solutions to change this reality but it hasn’t managed either to spread the use of PCs or to liberalize the sector. But now it seems to have found an efficient alternative: wimax and the distribution of low cost PCs. The Indian Government doesn’t only see as an advantage wimax’s low cost, high speed and quick distribution, but also the fact that it can reach the remotest areas, where currently people don’t even have fixed phones. In principle, the Government and several companies have come to an agreement to develop wimax technology in the country. The main Internet operators have decided to install wimax wireless networks as soon as the law permits it.
