SMC Networks, one of the main wireless hardware makers, has marketed a new line of product provided with wi-fi technology. The first two ones, named “SMC EZ Connect”, are a wireless print server and a wireless hard disk (practically, a backup server) based on the new 802.11g standard.
The current wi-fi is based on the 802.11b standard, and it is 20 times slower than that used by SMC Networks. What is more, the company is preparing an army of wireless products based on MIMO technology, which speeds up the connections but requires new routers and access points. MIMO stands for “Multiple Input, Multiple Output” and it stablishes multiple emission and reception connections simultaneously.
