Aragon will join the Spanish autonomous regions that will offer wimax to their rural areas, especially Sobrarbe and Ribagorza, in the region of the Pyrenees. The trial wireless network has been installed by Telefónica and Embou together with funds from the Government of Aragon, that will tender the whole project.
Then wimax will reach areas like Matarraña, Bajo Aragón, Monegros, Jacetania and Alto Gallego. Iberbanda (that only works with Explorer) has installed similar networks in Navarre and Catalonia, Andalusia and Murcia. The cable operators Euskaltel and R have done the very same thing in the Basque Country and Galicia. The trials in Sobrarbe y Ribagorza count on 19 pylons that will cover 90% of the population of 27 towns in this region. Broadband did already reach these areas, but only 35% of the people could access to it.
