The last 7th of December, the IEEE approved the new mobile WiMAX standard 802.16e, that allows moving terminals to use this wireless communication system. Many hardware makers and operators were waiting for this decision to start the installation of WiMAX networks. Now they can go ahead. The problem was that just a few dared to invest money in WiMAX when the ruling standard was 802.16d, which only worked with fixed terminals. However, now they are aware of the technical specifications that must be met by mobile WiMAX. This new system is much more attractive from a financial point of view, so it is possible to design mixed infrastructures (fixed and mobile).
